You are asking so obviously you must have an inkling they are inappropriate for your guests ,mainly the children .
I say just take them down, it isn't that difficult to put them back up after they leave . You also could just ask them to use a different bathroom .

Our teenagers first Christmas tree
by truthseekeriam inwe had fun putting together our first artificial tree last week, it came out so pretty!
the lights and cheap ornaments just add to it.. we have been careful to close our blinds at night to avoid our jw neighbors from calling in the elders, that worked for a few days until we decided to go out for an early dinner and yes, i forgot to close the blinds!
as we drove up to the garage door i could see the tree in the front room and started to freak out a little.

I am so happy for you and your family . Doesn't it feel great to be moving on and slowly getting over the fear ? I remember feeling I had to hide the tree that first year. I look back now ,and feel a little silly .
My husband too was not to game for having a tree ,but oh my goodness what a couple of years of freedom have done for him ! He now decorates the whole house outside with a computer run music and light show ! He is out of control ....in a good way .
I am trying to make special memories with our adult kids .Sending each other presents , having them buy an ornament every year I can put up and save for each year . We search for vintage ornaments depicting the years we have missed . Family dinners ,baking cookies with younger relatives ect.

WELCOME JEN1 , You are not alone ....sadly so many good people have been beaten down emotionally in the organization just like you .
' I consider myself to be a kind hearted person. Caring. The problem is jws make you feel bad/wicked for not going on service/not attending meetings/not being on service meeting/etc etc etc. And that eats away at you. '
Exactly how I began to feel while in the religion . Instead of being built up and engouraged for just being a caring good person you are torn down ,because 'your numbers' are not good enough .
I am so glad you found this site and are now beginning the healing process . Be free . Enjoy your life .

Your Dad sounds like a very good guy . It is good to hear he is keeping his balance ,doesn't sound like they will be able to take further advantage of him monetary wise . Wish my in laws were so prudent . I worry about them taking on more thay can handle now that they are retired and on a budget .

Thank you for sharing your story !
We are around the same age ,and several things you said hit home with me . I too was greatly impacted by the horrible stories told to me in my childhood about torture ,persecution ,and death of loved ones at Armageddon. Who in their right mind teaches such things to innocent children ?
Your statement below also struck a cord with me ..
"I thought, “If one more person tells me my kids are going to die. . .” That was my tipping point. The bottom line was that I was never going to shun either of my children."
Just recently a childhood friend of mine that had grown up as a Witness, made this exact same statement to me . She had married a non- Witness ,and all of her children had already left the religion . Through out her whole adult life she had been under constant ridicule from her large self-righteous Witness family . She tried to carry on as a JW ,but the cognitive dissonance with in her was eating her alive . Secretly she had been drinking to cope for years . Three yrs ago she was df'd ,and she confided in me, that constantly hearing her kids were going to die at Armageddon had been her final breaking point . Sadly the alcohol abuse had taken its toll ,she passed away a little more than a month ago . She was only 50 yrs old .... this religion is a sickness that takes it's toll on way to many innocent victims .

Simon , I am much better at talking than writing ! I appreciate the set of questions though, it helps to organize the thoughts . Once I figure out how to record myself I will make that video ....not very tech savy ,so please no one hold their breath waiting on me to get it done .
